The challenge

What we did

Eight priority themes

Problem identified: Weak enforcement of bike and scooter laws
Aim: Reduce the presence of unattended/ abandoned ebikes
Proposed action/commitment:
1. The City of Melbourne should clarify with Lime Bikes the allowable time bikes and scooters may be left unattended.
2. Remove blue cylinders currently lying around the streets to improve pedestrian safety.

Problem identified: Green spaces neglected.
Aim: Maintain green spaces to facilitate healthy ageing.
Proposed action/commitment:
1. Use participatory methods including walking interviews, narrative inquiry, and storytelling to understand needs of older adults.
2. Build partners with organisations willing to maintain or contribute materials for green infrastructure.
3. Explore unconventional locations such as rooftops for green spaces.

Problem identified: Tagging and street art.
Aim: Turn vandalised areas into creative, community-driven public art.
Proposed action/commitment:
1. Community painting sessions involving boarding house residents and public citizen-scientists.
2. Incorporate tagging into community artwork rather than removing it.
3. Build partnerships with City of Melbourne, local artists, community associations (including Facebook neighbourhood groups) and street artists.
